"The class and the instructor exceeded all of my expectations, and I acquired a better understanding of both myself and others. I've come away from the experience feeling equipped with new tools that I will utilize to help propel myself forward in a positive manner. The knowledge that I've gained can be applied to all aspects of my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity."

TravelHave Emotions, Will Travel
continued from above

My husband and I recently made a decision to rebuild our home. The emotions tied up in financing during a time of tight lending and tumultuous markets was taking up copious amounts of our energy. The dream of rebuilding, a former palliative, became nothing more than a bitter pill we were afraid to swallow. How could we determine the probability that the decisions we made about our home were the right ones for our children and for our future when the value of our investment changed daily? Like millions of others I would head to work each day with a little more pressure to make the correct decisions, but a little less ability to manage the uncertainty. I was preoccupied with my emotions - can you blame me?

Let us acknowledge that we are all being influenced by our emotions more than we used to be. On the negative side we experience fear, anger, and disappointment; on the positive side anticipation, optimism, and courage. Once we acknowledge that the influences of our emotions are currently heightened we can begin to manage ourselves better. Once we begin to manage ourselves we can look externally and make decisions that positively affect the decisions of those around us.

My husband and I decided to hold off on making the investment in the house. Instead, we are planning a small trip and focusing our energy on what we can manage well - staying connected with our children, our friends and family. We feel relieved and better able to make decisions that positively affect the health of our family and the companies that we work for.

We live in a difficult and demanding time full of changing messages that come without the comfort of predictable outcomes. Corporations, their clients, and their competitors may find themselves making decisions influenced by fear as often as by hard market knowledge. Many feel increasingly helpless over their lack of control, both professionally and personally. Simply put, people are weary. They are determining outcomes for their companies - and their families - in a tough environment, oftentimes blind to the long term impact of their decisions. Read More

Managing Emotions Intelligently to Thrive in Turbulent Times

Dr. JP Pawliw-Fry
Dr. JP Pawliw FryIt is based on one key principal of human performance: Under intense pressure, uncertainty and fatigue, individuals think, behave and make decisions very differently than in the absence of pressure and fatigue.

This program is designed to first help individuals understand and manage themselves in the face of this environment, and then to use this insight to connect more effectively in their key relationships. This 'inside out' approach matters for a reason: the research is clear that emotions drive behaviour. When an individual becomes overwhelmed by the stress and turbulence encountered in the market, and when customer's (or other key relationship's) anxiety is layered on top, if they do not manage their emotions properly, they invariably 'infect' their key relationships with their dominant emotion.

The End For Now
2008 has been a year full of change; one perhaps best described as a roller-coaster ride! We have held 165 programs and keynotes from China to Charlston; for a diverse clientele including both the Orlando Magic and the U.S. Army. We have enjoyed having an impact on the vast array of people we have encountered.
We look forward to 2009 with even more enthusiasm, knowing in advance the ride will throw us for some loops! Our program outlined above, Leadership in a Time of Turbulence, promises to have great impact as we all head in to this recession. As Ramsey Clark said "Turbulence is life force. It is opportunity. Let's love turbulence and use it for change."
Sincerely,
